Compiled of neighborhoods swarming with their own unique cultures, LA perfectly encapsulates the evolving Mexican/American identity as well as the larger Latin American influence soccer has on support. With such an eclectic intermixing of nationalities, fandom can take many forms in Southern California. For the Carranza’s, born into a split El Salvadorian and Mexican household, they turned to the USMNT to support a team that felt distinctly their own. For Karla Villaseñor, born in Mexico and later raised in LA, she forged her own path to support teams that speak to her heritage and resonate with her roots. Regardless of team or country, soccer remains the great equalizer amongst both families and is a passion point that unites more than it could ever divide.
